AE Transfer is a set of two scripts, for Autodesk 3ds Max and Adobe After Effects, that allows these two apps to exchange parameters of 3D objects and 3D layers with each other. The script for 3ds Max allows you to export cameras, lights, standard planes, and pass the Position, Rotation, and Scale properties of other 3D objects from 3ds Max to After Effects. The script generates another script as a *.jsx file containing exported data of the selected objects. This *.jsx script then runs in After Effects and creates the layers with the exported properties. You can also export the properties of a single object using a Windows clipboard and then paste them to the layer in After Effects.
Cameras, lights, and 3D layer parameters can be exported from After Effects to 3ds Max using the After Effects script. A MaxScript file (*.ms) containing the exported data of the chosen layers is created by this script. After that, 3ds Max executes the MaxScript file, creating the objects with the exported properties.
After Effect to 3ds Max
- Use the produced Maxscript file to export cameras, 3D layers, and lights;
- 3D layers with size parameters created in 3ds Max as regular planes (Solids, Rectangle Shapes, Footages, Compositions);
- Parent links are recreated in 3ds Max; - The Global Scale parameter is modifiable in 3ds Max; - The length of the property animation is automatically detected;
Installation
- Run 3ds Max as an administrator.
- Run the *.mzp file using the "Run Script" command from the "Scripting" menu.
- Click on "Install". The scripts will be installed for all 3ds Max and After Effects versions found in your system.
- After the message about successful installation, restart 3ds Max.
- Go to the "Customize" menu and open "Customize User Interface" dialog.
- In the opened window go to the "Toolbars" tab, find the "Category" drop-down list, select "AE Transfer" and drag the icon to a panel. If you installed AE Transfer to multiple 3ds Max versions, you need to create the button this way in every 3ds Max host.
- In After Effects, you can run the script from the File > Scripts menu. In order to use it, you need to turn on the "Allow Scripts to Write Files and Access Network" checkbox founded in Edit > Preferences > Scripting & Expressions menu.
